Start In

‘To bring Europe back to growth and create new jobs, we need more entrepreneurs’ *

Entrepreneurial Education is one of the three areas identified by the plan for immediate intervention, as entrepreneurship is a skill that can be learnt by developing an entrepreneurial mind set and skills.

The Kick-Off meeting for the Start In Project was held in Valladolid, Spain, on November 21, 2017. The project was funded by the European Commission under the Erasmus + Programme. With a lead from Turkey and partners from Spain, Finland, Greece, Poland, Ireland and the UK, the aim of Start In was to design and develop a new model of entrepreneurship education in schools in Europe.  By developing capacities and abilities from early ages, the foundations will be laid for young social entrepreneurs to transform ideas into action in different social, cultural or economic contexts.

The Start In partners worked together to co-create and test:

  • a curriculum and set of training modules on Inclusive and Innovative Entrepreneurship Education (IIEE);
  • a multilingual e-learning platform with e-learning courses;
  • a guide with recommendations to develop IIEE in Europe and
  • innovative mobile instructional learning apps.

The target users for Start In are school teachers and educators and the target beneficiaries are primary and secondary school students.

Hincks Centre for Entrepreneurship Excellence took the lead in the development of the Training Modules on IIEE.

The fourth partner meeting and training workshops were held in Chania, Crete, Greece (February 11 - 15, 2019). The Hincks Centre was delighted to have Trudie Murray, Lecturer from the Department of Management and Enterprise participate in the training with Helen McGuirk. Focusing on the curriculum content for the first two days, the project partners presented their respective modules which will form the Level 9 (EQF Lvl 7) 15 ECTS programme on inclusive and innovative entrepreneurship education.

The second part of the week was set aside for the ICT training. The Spanish and Polish partners gave a detailed presentation and practical sessions on the use of the e-learning tools which the project has developed and is now ready to pilot/trial. Trudie Murray is part of the Hincks team who will conduct this pilot with a group of Irish second level teachers later this year.

As part of the week-long training, partners, joined by 25 local Greek teachers, were treated to a fantastic presentation by the Finnish partners from JAMK University, on Entrepreneurship Education in Finland.
